100 Years of Scouting Image
In February 2010, the Boy Scouts of America will celebrate 100 years as an organization. Founded as an outlet to prepare every eligible youth in America to become a participating citizen and leader, BSA has more than fulfilled its mission. Today, as we celebrate our first 100 years, we not only reflect on our rich history, but lay the foundation for a strong future, as well.

National Council Activities

  • Join the Boy Scouts of America as we celebrate 100 years of Scouting adventure and continue our journey into the next century!

Visit BSA's official web site for details on all the activities, events, programs, and more.

  • For 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has created a strong foundation of leadership, service, and community for millions of America's youth. Through A Year of Celebration, A Century of Making a Difference, we will demonstrate the incredible impact of a century of living the Scout Law.

Program participants will earn recognition for making a difference in their communities due to their dedication to five of Scouting's core values: Leadership, Character, Community Service, Achievement, and the Outdoors. Through that commitment, participants can earn each of five award ribbons to display from our 100th Anniversary commemorative patch.

  • BSA has announced a special program in honor of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the BSA, which includes the reintroduction, for ONE YEAR ONLY, of four Historical Merit Badges - Carpentry, Pathfinding, Signaling, and Tracking.

  • Nearly every youth experiences Scouting with members of their family. The degrees of family involvement may vary, but ultimately, Scouting provides the opportunity to strengthen ties between family members, create great family memories, and develop a shared family foundation of worthwhile virtues and values.

Strong families build a strong foundation for America. Scouting is a legacy that can be shared throughout generations of families with lasting impact. It provides a constructive outlet for the family engagement that is essential for building healthy families and good citizens.

  • Has a Scout, leader, or other Scouting volunteer made a significant difference at some time in your life, or the lives of others, by extraordinary service they have given and the Scouting virtues they have modeled? You can thank them with a nomination to the BSA 100th Anniversary National Hall of Leadership!

  • A century of the finest outdoor and leadership experience a boy could have! This tradition lives on at the pinnacle of the 100th Anniversary of Scouting - the 2010 National Jamboree.

  • Stars and stripes. Apple pie. Baseball. Scouts. All are ingrained symbols in American culture of such values and virtues as honor, integrity, bravery, family, good times, and teamwork.

In 2010, BSA and MLB's "Pitch for Scouting" program will make Scouting a prevalent fixture in 30 Major League ballparks across the U.S. and Canada as well as to the minor league level.

Activities and events will begin as early as Spring Training 2010 and will reach their full impact in late August/early September at ballparks from coast-to-coast.
